Investigation on the mechanical, tribological, morphological and machinability behavior of stir-casted Al/SiC/Mo reinforced MMCs

Aluminum matrix composites (AMCs), reinforced with SiC and Mo, are formulated using stir casting. The influence of Mo inclusions on microstructural behavior, machinability was investigated. Microstructural behavior is analyzed scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) in the form microhardness, tensile strength, wear density, porosity as per ASTM standards. SEM EDS confirm existence dispersion particulates grain structure. XRD patterns indicate Al5Mo Al12Mo compounds formation hybrid composites, but least intensity. Optical imagery confirms dendritic structure inclusion base matrix. Machined surface roughness influenced by speed-feed while tool all inputs.
